Northwest Playground Hosts Inaugural Mickey Corso Scholarship Fun-Raiser Golf Tournament
On September 21, Northwest Playground proudly hosted the inaugural Mickey Corso Scholarship Fun-Raiser at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington. Held in partnership with the Washington Recreation & Park Association (WRPA), the event brought together parks and recreation professionals, landscape architects, community leaders, school district representatives, and industry partners for a day of golf, networking, and giving back.
Created to honor Mickey Corso’s legacy, the tournament showed what is possible when the parks and recreation community comes together to support future leaders. Through registrations, sponsorships, raffle prizes, games, and donations, the event raised $5,360 for the Mickey Corso Scholarship Fund.
Administered by WRPA, the Mickey Corso Scholarship is a leadership grant that helps professionals, students, and emerging leaders pursue continuing education, certifications, graduate coursework, leadership programs, and other development opportunities. Supporting the fund helps equip the next generation to strengthen parks, recreation programs, and communities across Washington.
The day included 18 holes of golf, friendly competition, games, raffle prizes, lunch, and time to connect with colleagues and partners who share a passion for vibrant public spaces. More than a tournament, it was a reminder of the lasting impact our industry can make by investing in the people who will carry this work forward.
This first-year event would not have been possible without our generous sponsors. We extend a special thank-you to AstroTurf, our Lunch Sponsor, along with Cart and Hole Sponsors Bruce Dees & Associates, RRM Design Group, West Coast Goalkeeping, ForeverLawn, Johnston Architects, First Citizens Bank, MxM Landscape Architecture, AHBL, and SCJ Alliance. Their commitment played a critical role in the tournament’s success.
We also thank the golf courses that donated foursomes and raffle prizes: Gold Mountain Golf Club, Chambers Bay Golf Course, Palouse Ridge Golf Course, Auburn Golf Course, Bellevue Golf Course, Columbia Point Golf Course, Lake Spanaway Golf Course, Lake Wilderness Golf Course, Maplewood Golf Course, Riverbend Golf Course, and Sun Willows Golf Course. Their contributions enriched the experience and generated additional support for the scholarship fund.
The support of participants, sponsors, volunteers, donors, and partners exceeded expectations and created a strong foundation for an annual tradition. Together, we honored Mickey Corso’s legacy, raising over $5,000, invested in future leaders, and strengthened our shared commitment to healthier, more connected communities. Thank you for helping us continue Building Community Through Play™.
