Why Natural Materials?

Natural materials and wood especially have made a tremendous comeback in play over the last few years. A primary driver for this can be made to improvements in manufacturing that have allowed for more durable, long lasting installations. Our wood partners are using species specifically selected for long term durability, with engineering detail designed into each part of a structure to help wood features as long as their metal and plastic counterparts.

From a sensory standpoint using real wood can oftentimes help programmed play features blend in and not detract from the beautiful nature that surrounds a new play area. On the other end of the spectrum, using wood in urban areas can help introduce nature play to children that might not be able to experience nature on a regular basis.

For play areas where using real wood might just not be an option we also have amazing options using Glass Fiber Reincfoced Concrete (GFRC) to mimic nature in amazing detail with uncompromised durability.

Wood Towers

There is nothing quite like the experience of climbing into a treefort. Utilizing wood in a climbing tower can recreate this experience and provide children with a glimpse of what it’s like to be perched up high in a tree! Our Eartshcape Collections line provides countless configurations for wood towers that can be uniquely incorporated into any play area.

Earthscape X KENGO KUMA

木山 Moku-Yama is designed in collaboration with the world-renowned Japanese architecture firm, Kengo Kuma & Associates. The name Moku-Yama translates from Japanese to Wood Mountain which aptly describes the impressive floating peaks and valleys of this unique play structure.

Moku-Yama offers a play experience like no other, inspiring individuals of all ages to explore their imagination and embark on thrilling adventures. From climbing and balancing to hiding and drop jumping, the possibilities are limitless. Earthscape and KKAA share a common vision rooted in materiality and craftsmanship, bringing together their expertise to create a playground that sparks creativity and engages the senses.

Wood Climbers

Climbers are a fantastic way to provide open end play for children as they continue to look for new challenges on the playground. We have dozens of configurations for wood and rope when it comes to climbers for both 2-5 and 5-12 age groups.

Sculpted Concrete

We can achieve the beauty of nature in amazing detail through sculpted concrete play features. Everything from trees, to logs, boulders and vines is possible to add a touch of nature to any play area with super durable materials.
