King Kamehameha III Elementary School now serves as a temporary home for students displaced by the Lahaina wildfires. In a remarkable show of commitment, the school was constructed in just 95 days and opened in April 2024, providing a much-needed sense of normalcy for the children and families of Lahaina. In August 2024, the school further enriched its grounds by adding a new playground, bringing the joy of play back to the community. Northwest Playground played a key role in making this project a reality, managing the layout and logistics to ensure a smooth installation.
The playground features PlayCubes that lead up to a Mighty Descent slide, creating an exciting and engaging play experience for students. The play structure itself was generously donated by Playworld, while funding for the surfacing and installation was provided by the Hawai‘i 3Rs Foundation.
Northwest Playground and Playworld executives were honored to attend the school’s dedication ceremony, celebrating the resilience of the Lahaina community and the collaborative efforts that made this project possible. This playground was made possible through a strong partnership with Playworld, ForeverLawn, Hawai‘i 3Rs, and South Pacific Contracting.
A special thanks to everyone involved in helping bring play back to such a deserving and resilient community.
