Pier 58 Jellyfish Playground - Seattle, Washington

Located between the Seattle Aquarium and Miner’s Landing, the Pier 58 Jellyfish Playground is a landmark play destination on Seattle’s revitalized waterfront. The playground features a large jellyfish-themed play structure designed to reflect the surrounding marine environment and support inclusive, imaginative play.

Developed through close collaboration with Earthscape Play, James Corner Field Operations, and the City of Seattle, the playground concept was shaped by extensive community engagement. Input from hundreds of residents helped guide a design focused on accessibility, creativity, and waterfront placemaking.

The jellyfish structure rises approximately 25 feet high and includes climbable nets, handholds, slide bars, and flexible seating integrated throughout its tentacles. The open design allows for clear sightlines and supervision while offering immersive views of Elliott Bay and the Seattle skyline.

At night, the structure features integrated LED lighting, with programmable colors that can align with special events and the nearby Ferris wheel.

Surrounding play elements include kelp-inspired robinia posts, Wobble Board crabs, climbable bubble forms, and an ADA-accessible slide platform. The entire play area is connected with poured-in-place rubber safety surfacing, creating a seamless, durable, and accessible surface for all users.

The Pier 58 playground plays a key role in Seattle’s waterfront revitalization, offering an iconic public space that connects play, art, and community along the shoreline.
